The Diabolical review

The Diabolical, Director: Alistair Legrand. Writers: Luke Harvis, Alistair Legrand. Stars: Ali Larter, Max Rose, Chloe Perrin. Genre, Horror, Sci-Fi. Release Date: 13 August 2015. Running time 1h 25m.

The plot, single mom with son and daughter are haunted each night by a terrifying apparition. Her new boyfriend, who happens to be a scientist is task with dealing with the situation.

At first, this film seems like another paranormal story. A creepy moment at the very start of the film reveals the apparition who looks like a bad imitation of Freddy Krueger. From that moment the story introduces us to all the main characters. All the typical ghost events take place, levitating objects, shadows and short scares. Some of the effects are poor in my opinion. I lost some interest when the demon/ghost disappears into the floor. It just looks too cheesy for my taste.

Along the middle of the film, the paranormal aspect begins to shift into a sci-fi type of story. Turns out the supposed ghost is actually a time traveler. At this point other characters come into play and the plot thickens. The landlord gets whacked by the demon. The facility were the demon guy came from is introduced. Somehow, through all this, I managed to get through the whole thing.

Conclusion, decent scares, not really into the cheesy effects they used. The time traveling element kills the momentum. It still good enough to watch during a late dinner at home.
